Emergency Hospitalization

Providing immediate access and effective management for patients in psychiatric crisis can mean the difference between a safe and successful outcome and potential disaster. The RNs at PsychCoverage have been providing this unique after-hours service to private practice psychiatrists since 1995.

Crisis calls are immediately connected to one of our experienced and specially train Psychiatric Nurses for assessment, support and critical care coordination. In some circumstances, skillful de-escalation, use of prn medication and follow up may be the most appropriate recourse. If a call is determined to be beyond the scope of a safe telephonic assessment and intervention, the PsychCoverage RN will provide the necessary expertise to ensure safety and risk mitigation for all concerned. Calls beyond the scope of a safe and effective telephonic intervention may require accessing local community resources that include:

  • Education to family members regarding 5150 process
  • Arranging face to face evaluations at a local Mental Health facility
  • Search for  inpatient bed  availability bed in the community
  • Initiate dispatch of first responders, such as 911 or Paramedics
